While weddings require incessant planning for months at end, for the D-day, there’s just one major task—look your absolute best! Stunning South Indian Bridal Looks For Your Special Day

The south bride look involves a lot of patience, attention to detail and minimalism with a dash of pop in terms of jewellery or the color scheme. With this being the year of weddings, we have narrowed down different variations of South Indian bridal looks inspired by celeb weddings that blew us way. Right from traditional to modern, contemporary and a mix of cultures, these various looks can be inspirations to nail different South Indian bridal looks. Check them out below!

Nayanthara & Vignesh – Symbolic & Auspicious

The ‘Lady Superstar’ of India aka Nayanthara, who rules South India cinema, got married to her beau of six years, Vignesh Shivan in June 2022. She donned a bright, vermillion red saree that was the perfect representation of her eloquence in the industry. Red has always been a traditionally significant colour in the Hindu marriage scene. The bride’s dress, the bindi, the sindoor or vermillion and chooda are all bright red. The colour is auspicious and tied to peace, prosperity and new beginnings.

That wasn’t the only traditional aspect of Nayanthara’s wedding saree, though—custom designed by Monica Shah and Karishma of Jade, the sleeves of the saree had motifs of goddess Laxmi, the intricate embroidery was inspired by the carvings of the temples of Hoysala. The saree was also personalised with the actors’ names, signifying the fourth vow. Her look was completed by the elaborate emerald choker and signature jewellery by Goenka India, gajra and a subtle nude make-up.

Rana Duggabati & Miheeka Bajaj – A Cross-Cultural Affair

Baahubali actor Rana Daggubati got married to Hyderabad-based interior designer Miheeka Bajaj in August 2020. Their marriage was a cross-cultural affair with both Telegu and Marwari traditions. The outfits adorned by Miheeka Bajaj then were a mix of the two cultures as well with both south indian bridal looks and looks tracing back to her Marwari roots. She wore a peach Kanjeevaram saree at the intimate roka ceremony that came with a rani pink dupatta. The saree was almost too pretty for words, and can be easily recreated by any brides looking for that perfect south indian look for wedding functions.

The traditional silk saree from her personal collection was styled with a highly embroidered pink blouse and matching dupatta by the Jayanti Reddy label. The peach saree had broad golden borders, in  line with traditional South-Indian bridal sarees.

Naga Chaitanya & Samantha Ruth Prabhu – The OG South Indian Bride

Even though the beloved couple ‘Chaysam’ might have broken up, the fact that their destination wedding in Goa was straight out of a fairytale doesn’t change. The couple performed traditional Telugu as well Christian wedding rituals, and Samantha’s look for the traditional Hindu wedding could not have been better. She wore a classic Kanjeevaram ivory saree that belonged to Naga Chaitanya’s grandmother, and paired it with a red silk embroidered blouse designed by Sabyasachi.

The gold temple jewellery, including a waistband and armbands from NAC Jewellery and the the gajra added moons and stars to the entire look. She rewore her wedding saree for Ashritha Daggubati’s marriage in 2019.

Sharwanand & Rakshita – Golden & Royal

Oke Oka Jeevitham star Sharwanand got married to his fiancee Rakshita Reddy in June this year. They hosted an opulent and royal wedding in the hotel The Leela Palace, Jaipur. Adding more magnificence to the entire setting were their twinning outfits in shades of gold. Sharwanand wore a beige gold sherwani set with a matching dupatta and turban, and the bride also donned an elegant, creamy golden silk saree with intricate borders. For the engagement, the bride was seen in a pastel blue and baby pink sari with a heavily embellished beautiful pink blouse. The final touches were added by a diamond choker around her neck.

Allu Arjun & Sneha Reddy – A Touch Of Classic

Allu Arjun and Sneha Reddy got married way back in 2011, when social media was hardly a thing. All that means is that we couldn’t go on an intense stalking spree (all healthy) and admire the wedding outfits of the two stars. All we have to make do is with the throwback pictures shared by Allu Arjun and Sneha’s mom. Sneha Reddy sported some breathtaking sarees on all her wedding functions, and brides to be better take notes. For her engagement she wore a green net Sabyasachi saree first then a pink Sabyasachi kanjeevaram saree with dark green borders and golden embroidery. For the wedding she wore a shining pink and golden silk saree, and later a dark orange/reddish golden, pure kanchipuram saree (this one is a personal favourite). Her signature diamond jewellery added beautiful final touches!

Shalini Kandukuri & Nithiin – Modern & Contemporary

Actor Nithiin and his long time girlfriend Shalini Kandukuri got married in May 2020. Their intimate wedding, planned by Minttu Sarna was certainly a beautiful one, and Shalini Kandukuri flaunted a range of sarees that were just too lovely. For the ring ceremony, she was dressed in a rich red Banarasi saree by Sabyasachi with a diamond and emerald encrusted kamarbandh. Our very favourite was her outfit for the haldi function, that was a soft mauve silk saree paired with temple jewellery and a long braid with gajra woven into her hair. For the traditional wedding, Shalini opted for a traditional look with a golden and red Kanjeevaram saree and a threadwork blouse. The ample accessories including a choker, multi-layered necklace, kamarbandh, and more turned her into a sparkling bride.

VJ Mahalaxmi & Ravindar – All Out Traditional

Tamil television actress VJ Mahalaxmi went for a really simple and sober look, a colour scheme that most South-Indian brides swear by. A red silk saree with broad golden borders and golden work, and a dark green blouse. She looked like a poster South-Indian bride, but the star really was her super cute smile. She wore golden jewellery and dark green bangles matching the blouse. She kept her hair braided and added rose petals to the braid.

Aditi Rao Hydari & Siddharth – The ‘2 States’ Dream Wedding

Aditi Rao Hydari and Siddharth tied the knot in an elegant ‘two states’ style wedding in a beautiful temple. As Instagram gushed over their ‘pixie’ love, we are in awe of the elegance their outfits carried. Hydari carried the gorgeous aura of a minimalist south bride look and dazzled in a breathtaking Maheshwari tissue organza lehenga adorned with intricate golden Zari work. The matching golden blouse, embellished with delicate stripes and a hand-embroidered border, complemented the lehenga perfectly. She paired it with a beautiful Banarasi tissue dupatta. To complete her regal look, she adorned herself with traditional gold jewelry, featuring sparkling rubies, and a fragrant Gajra woven into her loosely tied braid.

Siddharth opted for a simple yet sophisticated Kurta, subtly enhanced with intricate embroidery. Paired with a traditional Veshti bottom and a classic vintage watch, his ensemble exuded timeless charm of South Indian existence.

Mouni Roy & Suraj Nambiar – A South Indian Fiesta

Back in 2022, television’s favourite Naagin Mouni Roy and Suraj Nambiar tied the knot in goa in a beautiful south Indian ceremony. Mouni was the picture of elegance in a traditional south Indian white saree with red and gold borders and a matching red and gold blouse. She went all out in the south Indian route with matching south Indian traditional jewellery and completed the look with a gold belt and a gajra wound around her plaited hair. What we love about her jewellery is the detailing and the heavy grandeur it added to her plain white wedding outfit. Alongside Mouni, Suraj Nambiar wore a stunning ensemble of a beige kurta and traditional white mundu

Jyothika & Surya – The Memorable ‘Silver’ Screen Duo

We are taken back to 2006 as we witness the most famous couple of the year, Jyothika and Surya tie the knot. While we miss their onscreen presence now, nobody can forget the classic movies they shared space in. Their love story was quite literally ‘Chillinu Oru Kaadhal’ and Jyothika took the theme to heart in her wedding attire. Dressed in a soft pink saree with subtle gold borders, she skipped the traditional route and ditched gold jewellery for a cold silver ensemble. Surya complemented her ‘cold’ look with a white silk veshti shirt combo of his own.
